The NEA East 11-year-old All Stars participated in the District I Cal Ripken Tournament last week at Osceola.
The East All-Stars began tournament play with a loss to Osceola, 7-6. Jared Hembrey and Hunter Brown each went 2 for 3 to lead the East at the plate.
NEA East defeated NEA West 2-1 in the second game of play behind strong pitching and solid defense. Zach Birmingham pitched five innings for the East, allowing only three hits and walking one batter. Ross Clark was 2 for 3 and provided the game winning hit with the bases loaded in the sixth inning. Clark also struck out the side in the sixth to record the save for the East.
NEA East was shut out by Osceola 10-0 in the double elimination tournament to end their title hopes. Birmingham led the East by going 1 for 2 at the plate.
Team members are Jordan Helton, Blake Wheeler, Jared Burks, Hunter Brown, Jared Hembrey, and Zach Birmingham from Manila; Heath Hawkins and Joshua Freeman from Leachville; and Kameron Ashabranner and Ross Clark form Monette. The East all-Stars are coached by David Clark and Craig Wheeler.
