West All-Stars fall to Jonesboro
The Northeast Arkansas West 11-year old All Stars participated in the District I Cal Ripken Tournament last week in Osceola.
NEA West lost their first game on July 14 to eventual tournament title winner Jonesboro by a score of 5-1. NEA West Coach Michael Boatman said, "Jonesboro's pitcher was very strong, striking out 14 batters in six innings work."
Jonesboro Pitcher James Farris had a no hitter going through five innings, until NEA's Jonathan Rollins led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a single then scored and prevented the shut-out when Tyler White singled to drive in the run.
NEA West was defeated by NEA East in the second game of the double elimination tournament by a 2-1 margin. Tim Jacobson scored the West's only run of the game. Coach Boatman praised West pitcher Troy Brown, stating Brown did an excellent job and pitched very well. Boatman said, "We hit he ball real well, but the East played excellent defense."
Team members include Aaron Richey, Austin Davis, Cameron Casey, Matthew Pilcher, Josh Driver, and Jacob Boatman, all of Lake City; Tim Jacobson and Jonathan Rollins from Valley View; Devin Griffin, Blake Hogan, Tyler White and Troy Brown from Bay.
