Riverside and Manila participated July 23-25 at the Southeast Missouri State University's team basketball camp in Cape Girardeau.
Both teams fared well and seemed to play better as the week went on.
Riverside's A-team finished with a 5-4 record and won their division at the camp, while the B-team also finished 5-4 and advanced to the semi-finals of their division. Riverside will have five seniors this year and Rebel Coach Buster Campbell looks forward to an exciting year. Coach Campbell was pleased with his team for winning their division, and said he was very pleased with the play of his post players, especially Zack Ridge. Campbell said Senior Alex Smith also played well at the post position.
"We need to get more consistent as a team, but that is what camp is for," Coach Campbell said. "All of our kids got to play a lot and we got our sophomores some playing time as well."
The Rebel Coach was also pleased that his team "held its own against larger school competition" and stated that it should help his team when the season gets underway.
Manila's A Team finished with a 4-4 record while the B Team recorded five wins against three losses and advanced to the semi-finals of their division.
Manila Coach Anthony Brewington said his "team got better as the week went on, and that was the reason for attending."
Coach Brewington said the Lions will have only one senior and will not be very big.
Riverside also attended a team camp at Williams' Baptist College July 14-17.
