The Northeast Arkansas 10-year-old East All-Stars participated in the Cal Ripken State tournament over the weekend which was held at Manila.
The NEA was defeated on Friday by Batesville, 10-2. Manila led 1-0 after the first inning, but Batesville scored two in the second and did not look back, scoring two more runs in both the third and fourth innings, then adding one more in the fifth and three runs in the sixth inning. Jorge Garza went two for two with two runs scored while Jeremy Goff went 2 for 3 including a double and a single and two RBI's. Wes Westmorlan added a single as did Tracy Reinhart II, and Garrett Scott. Pitcher Tray Malone struck out 11 batters for the NEA.
The NEA 10's bounced back on Saturday with a 5-4 win over Van Buren. Garza doubled and singled twice while Malone and Goff both had two singles and one run scored each. Blake Carr added one hit and one run. Scott, Dominick Marquez, Isaac Ibanez, and Wesley Westmorlan all singled for the NEA All-Stars.
The NEA 10's lost on Sunday to Mountain Home, 4-3, in a seven inning game.
Scott led the hitting attack for the NEA with a single and a double, while Garza and Westmorlan each singled twice. Reinhart also added one single, while Malone, Carr and Brent Ray all scored runs.
The NEA East 10-year old All-Stars were coached by Steve Westmorlan, Paul Malone and Tracy Reinhart.
Members of the 2003 10 year old East All Starts team include Wesley Westmorlan, Tracy Reinhart II, Dominick Marquez, Jacob George, Jorge Garza, Isac Ibanez, Brent Ray, Garrett Scott, Tray Malone, Blake Carr, and Jeremy Goff.
Teams playing in the Manila hosted Cal Ripken 10- year old State Tournament were Mt. Home, Waldron, Rogers, Washington Co., Jonesboro, Van Buren, Batesville, and NEA East.
