Benefit golf tourney raises $2,410
The second annual Big Lake Country Club golf tournament, to benefit The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, was held Saturday in Manila and grossed $2,410.
Seventeen three-member teams took part in the tournament, which is one of the largest Buffalo Island fundraisers held to benefit Relay for Life.
Relay for Life committee members Sheila Spurlock, Brenda Methany, and Janice Edgin hosted the event . Lynda Edwards, Hazel Welch, Willene Townsend and Edna Hall provided lunch for the players following the activities. Terry Carr helped the committee members organize the tournament and assisted in tallying the scores. Area businesses and individuals sponsored teams taking part in the event and also provided prizes and gifts.
"We are so pleased with the turnout this year, and are very thankful for those who gave their time and money to make this tournament a success," Spurlock said. "Relay for Life raises the awareness about the progress being made to fight cancer. This also gives us a chance to remember those who live with cancer and to pay tribute to those who lost their lives due to it."
