Manila shuts out Riverside
Casey Hill hit Matt Owens' first pitch of the game high over the left field fence and that would be all the run support Doug Lester would need as Manila shut out Riverside 4-0 in Senior Babe Ruth action Tuesday night at Manila.
Lester was dominant on the mound for Manila going the distance striking out 12 while giving up four walks to get the win.
Manila added a single run in the second inning on a big two-out double by Jacob Walker.
Manila got two more insurance runs in the fourth when with one out John Hicks drew a walk.
Then one out later it was Walker again delivering a big two-out two run homer to give Manila a 4-0 cushion.
Riverside didn't get their first hit of the game until Matt Snyder legged out an infield single with one out in the fourth. But Lester struck out the next two batters to snuff out any thoughts of a Rebel rally.
Lester retired 10 of the last 11 hitters he faced allowing only a lead off walk to Snyder in the seventh inning. After Snyder reached on a base on balls Lester struck out the side ending the game with six strike outs in the last two innings.
Owens pitched well for Riverside fanning nine while giving up only two walks. He surrendered only six hits, but unfortunately for Owens and the Rebels two of the hits left the park and Riverside was unable to muster any offense against Lester.
