Several area All-Star teams competed in district tournament play last week, with the NEA East 7-8 year old machine pitch team finishing as runner-up in their divsion at Manila. This earned them a berth in the state tournament which will begin Friday in Van Buren.
The NEA East All-Stars began tournament play on July 3, losing to eventual tournament champion Jonesboro by a 9-2 margin.
Keiser's Hank Morgan doubled and singled while Monette's Zack Wells added two singles for the East All-Stars.
Etowah's Brady Jones, Manila's J.R. DeHart, Keiser's Corbin Smith and Leachville's Shawn Scoggins all contributed singles.
The NEA East All-Stars bounced back on July 5 by defeating Blytheville's All-Stars 9-7.
Manila's Zachary Reinhart and Lake City's Braden Peaster led the East with two singles apiece, and Wilson's Corey Chitman, Lake City's Zach Reece and Scoggins all doubled. Wells, Jones, DeHart, Morgan, Smith and Monette's Logan Dewitt all singled in the game.
The East followed the victory over Blytheville with an 11-3 victory over the Northeast Arkansas West All-Stars in a semi-final game that insured the winner of a trip to the state tourney.
Smith triped and singled, Jones doubled and singled, while Morgan, Peaster, and Colby Brister of Keiser all singled twice. Manila's Jordan Goff had a triple and Chitman added a double. Manila's Tyler Ritsmon singled for NEA East, as did Wells, Dewitt, DeHart, Reece, Reinhart and Scoggins.
In the championship game on July 6, the NEA East team was defeated by Jonesboro 11-1. Chitman, Jones, DeHart and Scoggins all singled.
The East All-Stars are coached by Ricky Scoggins, Vandull Stokes, Johnny McCain and Scottie Reinhart.
The NEA West 10-year-old All-Star team participated in their district tournament in Jonesboro at Joe Mac Campbell Park.
The West All-Stars were defeated on July 3 by Blytheville's All-Stars 15-5.
Bay's Lyndon Livergood tripled, scored, and added an RBI for the West while Valley View's Shad Storey added two hits and an RBI. Lake City's Jake Love scored two runs and Ty Huggins from Valley View and Nathan Miller from Lake City also scored runs.
On July 6 the West again played Blytheville for an opportunity to play in the championship game against Jonesboro's All-Stars, but were defeated 6-3.
Love had two hits and two RBIs to lead the West, while Miller added a hit and scored a run. Huggins and Storey each singled as did Brookland's Eric Simpson. Josh Manley and Zack Weese, both of Brookland, scored the West's other two runs.
The NEA West 10-year-olds were coached by Jimmy Livergood and assisted by Richard Huggins and Dennis Timms.
Other team members are Bay's Daniel Holt, Valley View's Donnie Trotter and Derrick Timms of Brookland.
