McLaughlin is lucky winner

Scott McLaughlin of Black Oak said he did not feel especially lucky on June 14, but he decided he would join the hundreds of others waiting to try a key to unlock the 2003 Honda Pilot that was going to be given away. It turned into his lucky day as he chose the key that unlocked the door.

Area radio stations, The Mix 106.7, Z100, and The Fox 104.9, made a 12 week tour including stops at the area Sonics to register people for the vehicle give-away. The Lake City Sonic was the next to the last on the tour and was visited by the radio stations on June 10.

Scott and his wife, Michelle, registered at the Lake City Sonic.

Robert Wilbur, Sonic manager, said he was informed that there were over 4,000 registered in the contest. He felt great that the winner had registered at his drive-in.

The McClaughlins joined the other hopefuls at the Convocation Center in Jonesboro to try a key. They said registration started about 9:30 a.m. and people started trying their keys at 11 a.m.

"There were probably 1,000 people in front of me, and I don't know how many were in line behind me. It was about 12:10 p.m. when I got to reach in the bowl and pick out my key. When it opened the door, I just waited for a few seconds to see what was going to happen and to make sure it really worked," McLaughlin said.

The family size SUV has a third seat for more passenger room, a DVD player, and all the extras. It came with sales tax paid and a year's supply of gasoline.
