Lake City Jammers claim tournament title
It was all Lake City Saturday in the 9-10 year old league tournament as the finals pitted the Sonic Blasters and the Vester Spencer Trucking Jammers for the tournament title and bragging rights.
The Lake City Jammers claimed the tournament championship by going undefeated in tournament play but found their biggest challenge in winning the tournament from their "cross-town" rivals, the Lake City Sonic Blasters.
The number one seed Jammers began tournament play with a 25-4 thumping of the Brookland Bandits, then pounded Valley View's Mets 18-6. The Jammers beat Valley View's Cardinals 8-4 in the finals of the winner's bracket, then took on the Sonic Blasters who defeated the Cardinals in the loser's bracket finals 10-8.
The Jammers looked as though they might cruise to the title early on, as they jumped out to a 9-1 lead after two innings. But the Sonic Blasters fought back with a four run third inning, then took the lead in the fourth inning with seven runs, 12-9.
Justas it seemed the momentum had switched to the Sonic Blasters, the Jammers rallied and by the end of six innings, the game was tied 14-14.
After the sonic Blasters went scoreless in the top of the seventh, Cody Stallings drew a bases loaded walk to score the inning run.
Tyler Rolland led the Jammers hitting attack with a tripe, a double, and a single, while Jake Love followed with a double and two singles. Nathan Miller laced two singles and Colby McClung added a double. Anthony Pyburn, Josh Anderson, and Cody Stallings each produced singles.
Jason Eidson singled, doubled, and tripled to lead the Sonic Blasters, while twin brother Jared Eidson followed with a triple and a single. Cole Winford and Jake Emery each singled and doubled in the contest, and Jason Crawford singled twice. Jeffery Wilde added a double and James Boness rounded out the hitting attack for Sonic's Blasters with a single.
