The Manila Booster Club honored its athletes on Thursday with a fish and barbeque dinner. Booster Club president Dennis Seyler welcomed the athletes, coaches, parents, and members. The club honored athletes who have held a 3.0 grade point average for the year. Senior 3.0 members are: Mitchell Gammill, John Hicks, Justin Kirk, Christina Lester, Ashley Metheny, Nathan Morries, Michelle Stone, and Allison York. Junior members include: Megan Ashabranner, Connie Brown, Jared Camp, Jodie Cherry, Michelle Eubanks, Corey Grayson, Casey Hill, Daniel Hilligrass, Adam McDaniel, Maegan Shelton, Natalie Tippy, Whitney Veach, and T.J. Wood. Sophomore members are: Morgan Adams, Julie Dawson, Amanda Henson, Holly McGuire, Codie Moore, Morgan Moore, Randy Murray, Matt Noble, Melissa Parker, Brittni Sammons, Nathan Sammons, Deborah White, Jordan Wise, and Derrick Wright. A plaque with each athletes name will be placed in the gymnasium.
Junior high 3.0 club include: Ninth grade - Audrey Booth, P.J. Brumley, Jennifer Ellis, Christina Pizano, Samantha Quinn, Blake Reinhart, Amanda Rowan, Whitney Shepard, B.J. Stone, and Elizabeth Studabaker. Eighth grade - Rocio Bedolla, Kayla Hobeck, Katie Master, Kaitlin Minton, Kari Rameriz, Kenneth Vancely, Hunter Veach, Katie Veach, and Zac Williams. Seventh grade - Amy Browning, Kyle Cherry, Myra Earnest, Andy Fleeman, Jessica Fleeman, Candice Halford, Blaine Lawrence, Trey McCormick, Jenni Miller, Weston Moore, Chad Nunnally, J.T. Short, Michael Stone, and Logan Towles.
Cheerleader sponsor Scottie Reinhart recognized all junior and senior high cheerleaders with a certificate of participation. Reinhart gave awards at each level. Captain leadership award in junior high went to Jennifer Ellis and Co-captain leadership went to Katie Master. Kaitlin Minton and Jenni Miller received the junior high most improved award. Outstanding cheerleader went to Jennifer Ellis and Best Spirit was awarded to Kaitlin Minton. Kayla Hobeck and Logan Towles received Ms. Congeniality. Most Improved in senior high went to Holly McGuire and Brooke Brown. Outstanding Cheerleader and Best Spirit went to Morgan Moore along with Sarah Hargrave who also received Best Spirit. Ms. Cogeniality went to Morgan Adams. Ashley Metheny was awarded the Captain Leadership Award as well as the ACCA Team of Excellence Award. Megan Ashabranner was awarded the Co-captain Leadership Award. Michelle Stone received the ACCA Team of Excellence award also.
Coach Codie Malloy honored the junior and senior high girls basketball players and award winners. Junior high award winners: Kari Rameriz - Rebound, Free Throw, and Defense; Katie Veach - Most Assist, 3 point percentage, and Most Points; Michelle Daniel - Most Steals and Field Goal Percentage; Samantha Quinn - Hustle; and Rocio Bedolla - Most Improved.
The senior high girls awards went to: Deborah White -Rebound and Defense; Marilou Perez - Most Steals(138), Field Goal Percentage (55%), and Most Points(428); Natalie Tippy - Most Assists (87), 3 Point Percentage (45%), and MVP; Amanda Henson - Free Throw; Christina Lester - Hustle; Julie Dawson - Most Improved; and Michelle Eubanks - Lady Lion. Malloy also honored Natalie Tippy, Marilou Perez, Amanda Henson, and Deborah White for receiving 3AAA South All Conference.
Coach Malloy honored the softball girls along with the award winners. Christina Lester received the Golden Glove Award along with being recognized as the only senior on the team. Audrey Booth received the award for Most RBIs. Morgan Moore received Stolen Bases; Amanda Henson - Batting Average and Hustle; Natalie Tippy - Pitching Average and MVP. Three Lady Lions also received all conference: Morgan Moore, Amanda Henson, and Natalie Tippy.
Coach Toby Doke recognized all baseball players and honored seniors John Hicks and Justin Kirk. Receiving baseball awards were: Josh McDaniel - Triple Crown; Casey Hill - Golden Glove; E.R.A. - Jared Camp; Mr. Hustle - Juan Moyeda; Kevin Curtis - Most Improved and MVP; Cody Wells - Newcomer of the Year; and John Hicks- Most Wins. Senior John Hicks and sophomore Josh McDaniel received all conference recognition.
Junior high coach John Deaton recognized the junior high boys basketball team. Awards were given to: Kyle Misner-Rebounds; Cody Wells- Most Steals, Most Assists, Most Field Goals Made, Best Free Throw Percentage; P.J. Brumley- Most Steals and Defensive; Dustin Hobeck-Charges; Zac Williams - Best Free Throw Percentage and Most Improved; and Chase Shelton - Hustle.
Coach Anthony Brewington gave a special thank-you to Jimmy and Marilyn Davis from all athletes and coaches in the Manila program. "Jimmy and Marilyn can always be counted on for keeping the scorebook and clock at home games," Brewington stated. The teams presented the Davis' with a gift certificate.
Brewington recognized the seventh grade boys for the 2002-2003 season. "These young men have come along way this year," Brewington stated.
Coach Brewington went on to honor the senior boys basketball players and award winners. Nate Morries received: Most Rebounds, Most Steals, Best Field Goals Percentage, Best 3 Point Field Goal Percentage, Best Free Throw Percentage, and 3AAA South All Conference. Matt Noble was awarded: Most Assists, Most Charges, Best Free Throw Percentage and Defensive. Mitchell Gammill received the Best Field Goal Percentage. Jordan Wise was awarded Best 3 Point Field Goal Percentage. Justin Kirk received the Hustle Award and Boo Grayson was Most Improved.
Brewington honored Michelle Eubanks and Klayton Seyler with Best Scoring Average in golf. He went on to recognize the boys golf team for the District Championship and Seyler for being 10th out of a field of 72 at the state competition. The Lady Lions golf team was the district and regional champions and are competing this week in the state competition at Heber Springs.
The evening ended with the presentation of the sportsmanship awards. The sportsmanship award is voted on by Booster Club Members as they arrive at the banquet. This years recipients are: Junior Girls - Katie Veach; Junior Boys - Austin Metheny; Senior Girls - Michelle Eubanks; and Senior Boys - John Hicks.
