Manila golf players qualify for state
Two members of the Manila Golf team, Klayton Seyler and Scott Townsend, qualified to compete at the state level in Farmington, near Fayetteville.
Seyler finished 10th out of 72 in state competition. He is a sophomore at Manila High School and the son of Dennis and Candy Seyler.
Seyler received All State honors and shot a 77. This is Seyler's second year to be on the Manila Golf Team.
Townsend shot a 96. He is a junior at Manila High School and the son of Scott and Pam Townsend. This was Townsend's first year to qualify for state and Selyer's second year.
Manila golf is coached by Anthony Brewington.
The Manila Girls' Golf team consists of two girls, Michelle Eubanks and Bethany Daley. The two was enough to win the 2003 District Championship. The girls will be going to the Regional Tournament on Wednesday at Ridgepoint Country Club on Wednesday.
This is only the second year in Manila for a girls' golf team. Michelle, a junior at MHS, is the daughter of Brad and Tonia Eubanks. She was instrumental in getting the girls' program started in Manila and has played both years.
Bethany, a freshman at Manila High School, is having a great first year on the golf team. Bethany is the daughter of Jeff and Terri Daley.
The girls shot a total of 213 to win the championship with Valley View coming in second with a total of 228.
The top three teams in the regional competition will qualify to go to state. The girls will also be eligible to qualify for state as individuals.
