Manila sports loses three seniors

Friday, May 16, 2003

Manila will lose three seniors in spring sports this year. The Lady Lions were led by senior Christina Lester. She is the daughter of Glen and Diane Lester. Christina has played softball four years at Manila High School. Lester played centerfield, third base, and some short stop for the Lady Lions. She will be remembered for her daring steals and slides.

Senior John Hicks, son of Jamie Hicks, wrapped up a four year career at Manila. Hicks began his career playing first and third but stepped up last season to pitch. He improved his pitching career this season with a 4-3 record. John will be remembered for hitting two Gosnell players in one inning this season and always getting mad at himself.

Last, but not least, is Justin Kirk, son of Donnie Kirk and Theresa Carpenter. Kirk has played baseball two years. He has played right field and this season at first. Justin sat out his junior year but returned this season as Manila's second senior. Kirk will always be remembered for his blazing speed and running for John Hicks.

These seniors will be missed on the diamond.
