Ned Gilbert Rice - Manila

Ned Gilbert Rice, 92, of Manila, died Friday, May 9, 2003, at the Manila Nursing Center. Born at Manila, he was the son of the late Jake and Victoria Robbins Rice. He was a lifelong Manila resident and was a retired businessman having owned and operated the Shell Service Station in Manila. He was also an avid fisherman and enjoyed raising quail and working in his tomato garden. He was dedicated to his family and was a member of Westside Baptist Church in Manila.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Sue Robirds and Bobbie Picotte, both of Manila; a brother, Jake Rice, Jr., of Manila; a sister, Annie Mae Jackson of West Plains, Mo.; three grandchildren, Kenny Redman, Donna Kilbreth and Danny Carey; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Osborne Rice in 1993, one great-grandson, Dustin Carey, three brothers and three sisters.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Howard Funeral Chapel in Manila with Rev. William Piercy officiating. Burial was in the Manila Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Danny Carey, Kevin Scott, Chester Kilbreth, Ted Picotte, Jimmy Hitchcock and Dewey Mitchell.
