Strong pitching and lively bats helped propel the Riverside Lady Rebels to a couple of big conference wins this past week.
Riverside stole its way past Rector on Wednesday with a dominating 13-1 win. The Lady Rebels stole an incredible 23 bases in a game that was called after five innings.
Samantha Dunigan turned in a strong pitching performance for the Lady Rebels, while Jennifer Pollard blasted a 2-run double to lead the Rebel offensive attack.
The Lady Rebels came out on Thursday and jumped all over Walnut Ridge enroute to a 15-5 six-inning victory. Pollard again led the Rebel onslaught with four singles while Amanda Dunigan stroked two singles and a double as they Rebels improved to 4-5 overall and 4-4 in conference play.
Samantha Dunigan again, picked up the pitching win and also helped herself at the plate with a pair of hits.
"We are playing really well right now," said Lady Rebel Coach Nancy Ritter. "I like our chances entering this week's District Tournament."
The tournament started Monday at Rector with the Lady Rebels playing Walnut Ridge.
Last week, Riverside's Lady Rebel softball team had a short week of action due to cold and rainy weather.
The Lady Rebels traveled to Rector on Tuesday and lost a tough 7-4 decision to the Rector Lady Cougars.
Rector (4-0) led 4-3 after the second inning and 5-4 after Riverside scored once in the top of the sixth before Rector tacked on two more runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Tara Shepard improved her record to 4-0 with a complete game victory for the Lady Cougars.
Sam Dunigan took the loss for Riverside which fell to 2-6 overall and 2-5 in league play.
Amanda Dunigan and Miranda Stephens each had two hits to lead the Lady Rebel attack.
The Lady Rebels also played Marmaduke as part of a doubleheader winning a 9-8 thriller. Leading the hit parade for Riverside was Amanda Dunigan, Heather Chastain, and Miranda Stephens with three hits each. Jennifer Pollard, Whitney Chastain, and Amy Barrett had two hits each. Christy Goodman had one hit.
Sam Dunigan got the win for Riverside as the Lady Rebels improved to 3-6 overall and 3-5 in conference action.
