Lions split at Craighead County Tournament

Manila split two games in the Craighead County Tournament this past weekend. The Lions fell to Westside 13 -3 on Friday and defeated Brookland 14 - 4 on Saturday. Josh McDaniel took the loss on the mound for Manila striking out two, walking two, and giving up eight runs on eight hits in three innings of pitching. John Hicks struck out two, walked three, gave up one run on two hits in two innings of relief for the Lions.

McDaniel led Manila with a home run in the first. Juan Moyeda doubled followed by Boo Grayson and Jackey Parker with singles.

Freshman Cody Wells picked up his first pitching win in Manila's 14 -4 win over Brookland on Saturday. Wells struck out nine, walked three, and gave up three runs on four hits.

Brookland scored on a wild pitch in the first before Josh McDaniel two run homer for Manila gave the Lions a 2 -1 lead after one. Wells struck out three in the second as Chris McCormick's fielder's choice scored Wells for a 3 -1 Manila lead in the second.

Brookland briefly took a 4 - 3 lead on a three run homer from Reece. McDaniel doubled, stole second and third before a bunt by Casey Hill scored McDaniel. Wells reached first on an error. Boo Grayson's single scored two runs for Manila taking a 7 - 4 lead after three. After a cold fourth Manila came back in the fifth to score seven runs. Hill reached first after being hit by the pitcher followed by a base hit by Wells. Grayson's single loaded the bases before a single by Jackey Parker scored two runs. Kevin Curtis put runners on first and third after being hit by a pitch. Juan Moyeda walked followed by hit by McDaniel that scored two runs putting the Lions up 13 - 4. John Hicks single scored a run followed by Hill's fielder's choice scored McDaniel for the ten run advantage and the game.
