BIC Mustangs improve to 14-4

The Buffalo Island Central Mustangs improved their season record to 14-4 on Saturday with a dramatic 13-4 victory over Viola. The game capped off the Bay/BIC/Viola Playday in Monette.

BIC exploded for nine runs in the fifth inning which was highlighted by a Josh Nettles grand slam.

Brandon Ballard was the winning pitcher who remains undefeated on the year, 5-0. Ballard struck out 12 and scattered seven hits in the win.

The Mustangs fell to Bay, 13-4, earlier in the day.

On Thursday, BIC, behind the pitching of Brett Sexton, defeated Clarkton, Mo., 6-2. Sexton tossed a three-hitter in the win for the Mustangs striking out four and walking four. Josh Shepard picked up the save.

Ballard had two hits in the win while Preston Despain had a two-run double. Mark Hawkins also kocked in a run.

BIC also defeated Riverside, 12-6, last Tuesday.

Ballard struck out 10 and allowed only five hits and two earned runs. Hawkins went three for four at the plate while Despain was two for three. Depasin and Hawkins each had three RBIs.
