Manila improves to 4-5
Senior John Hicks picked up two conference wins on the mound as Manila improved to 4 - 5 in 3AAA South this week.
Hicks got the first win over Rivercrest striking out five and giving up three earned runs in the Lions 8 - 7 win. Justin Hill picked up the save striking out one and giving up one walk. Jared Hart took the loss for the Colts striking out three, walking two, and giving up six earned runs.
Hicks was 3 for 3 at the plate with one RBI leading Manila followed by Boo Grayson who went two for two and an RBI. Also hitting for the Lions in the first matchup were: Cody Wells - double; Casey Hill - base hit; Matt Noble - double; and Kevin Curtis - triple.
Rivercrest defeated Manila 12 - 1 in the second matchup. Jared Camp started for the Lions on the mound but a line drive caught Camp in the upper thigh causing him to leave the game.
Justin Hill came in for Manila and took the loss with four strike outs and two walks. Rivercrest's Chad Hardin picked up the win.
Manila couldn't make contact in the second matchup with Boo Grayson having the only hit with a base hit.
John Hicks and Justin Hill combined again to pick up a 5 - 1 conference win to sweep Harrisburg in conference play. Hicks (3-2) struck out seven; walked four; and gave up four hits with one earned run. Hill pitched two perfect innings of striking out five for the save.
The Lions picked up four runs in the fourth with only one hit Josh McDaniel's solo home run. Manila utilized Harrisburg's two errors and a walk in the inning.
Along with McDaniel's home run, Hicks had Manila's other hit with a base hit. Chester Harvey picked up the pitching loss for the Hornets striking out six.
