Riverside Rebels hand WR first loss

Riverside's Rebels handed Walnut Ridge their first loss of the season with a 3-2 victory in senior boys' tennis action Thursday at Walnut Ridge.

The Rebels win capped a 3-0 week which improved their record to 4-1-1 on the year.

The deciding match against the Bobcats came in doubles as Lee Blake and Dustin Kelems fought off the team of Jonathon Wichman and Charles Davidson 6-4.

Von McDaniel and Josh Ball also posted wins in singles to help the Rebels go undefeated for the week.

In earlier matches involving the boys, Riverside claimed a 3-2 win over Ridgefield Christian and 2-1 over the Winder Cardinals.

Against Ridgefield Christian, Lee Blake netted a 6-1 win over Elisha Lawrence, while the teams of Blake-Kelems and McDaniel and Allen Luff recorded doubles wins to close out the matches.

In the Weiner match, it was Blake's 7-6 (7-5) win that catapulted the Rebels to victory. The team of Blake-Kelems easily beat Weiner's duo of Kyle Lawrence and Steve Wilson 6-0 in doubles action.

Coach Terry Conner's Lady Rebels also had a successful week by winning two out of their three matches.

The Lady Rebels blitzed Weiner 5-0 on Monday behind the play of junior Chelsea Couch, who posted wins in both singles and doubles. Junior Hailey Faulkner also got a win in singles for the Rebel Netters.

In doubles, it was Couch and Casey Peaster thrashing the Lady Cardinals Dale and Leuhart 6-0. The team of Miranda Boyd and Chasity Chisnall recorded two sins in doubles by shutting out two different Lady Cardinal doubles' teams.

The Lady Rebels then hosted Ridgefield Christian on Tuesday in claiming a 4-1 win. The Lady Rebels swept the three doubles matches to close out the victory. Casey Peaster won in singles with a 6-0 whitewashing of Jana Hutchinson while Couch/Peaster, Faulkner/Chisnall, and Boyd/Chisnall were victorious in doubles' play.

Riverside's girls absorbed their only loss of the week losing 4-1 to undefeated Walnut Ridge to close out the week of play.

The Lady Rebels are now 3-2-1 on the year heading into April.
