Lions rally in 10th to notch win over Harrisburg

Friday, March 28, 2003

John Hicks came up with a big relief win pitching 2 2/3 hitless innings as the Manila Lions defeated Harrisburg 6 - 5 in 3AAA conference play. Hicks relieved Josh McDaniel, who had done a great job, in the eighth inning.

Hicks walked two and struck out two for the Lions. Manila gave up three runs in the second on two costly errors but the Lions didn't let those errors get them down.

Casey Hill hit a long fly ball to left field with two outs to give Manila the 6 - 5 lead. With the score tied 5 - 5, McDaniel led off the 10th with a double followed by strike outs by the next two batters before Hill's single scored the winning run.

Cody Wells tied the game for the Lions, leading off with a single in the seventh. Wells took second and third on wild pitches before a walk put runners on the corners. Wells scored after finding himself in the hot box and taking home on a wide pitch at the plate.

Juan Moyeda led Manila at the plate going 2-for-4 with a triple, home run and two runs batted in. McDaniel added three hits followed by Wells, P.J. Brumley, and Kevin Curtis with two hits each.

Manila will travel to Pocahontas Thursday before heading to Rivercrest on Friday for another conference matchup.
