Rebels hand Rector first round loss

Riverside's Rebels battled to a 24-4 first quarter lead and never looked back in handing Rector a 66-46 loss in the opening round of the 3AA North District Tournament Monday night at Bay.

The Rebels, who advanced to a second round match-up with Maynard, led 34-18 at the half and stretched the advantage to 58-30 by the end of the third quarter.

Matt Owens and Dustin Kelems led the Rebs with 16 and 14 points respectively, while Joe Ellis and Von McDaniel scored nine each. Zac Reynolds had eight, Michael Dewitt had five and Zach Ridge added four as Riverside improved its record to 14-17 with the win.

Rector, which closes out its season 3-18, was led by Kyle Sander who had 11 points. Jay Beacham and Matt Hill pitched in eight points each for the Cougars. Ryan Carpenter had six, James Hemphill scored four, Nathan Wyatt added three and Eric Clayton and Max Wyss pitched in two points each to round out the Rector scoring.
