A late fourth quarter surge, in a game by surges, enabled Buffalo Island Central (BIC) to beat the Rector Lady Cougars 55-44 in a make-up game played at Rector Friday night.
Bic then woke up and salted the game away at the freethrow line. Two freethrows by Sara Walker at 3:23 made the score 45-42. Two freethrows by Jamie Lamar at 2:56 and a lay-up by Bell at 2:43 left the score 47-44. Bic then added six more freethrows in the final two minutes. Bic was 12 for 15 from the line in the final period .
Roach led Bic in scoring with 19 points, Holly Cagle had 12 points, Walker had 10, Lamar scored 9, Leslie Cobb had 3 points and Sasha Barnett had 3 points. Bic is now 7-19.
Robins led the Lady Cougars with 15 points, Hill tallied 13 points, Bell had 9 points, Tracer had 5 points and Sara Parmenter scored 2 points. Rector's record is 4-18 (1-13).
In a matchup of the two top seeded teams in the upcoming junior district tournament Bic defeated Rector 33-26 in the junior high game .Bic finished the season 22-2 overall and were first in the conference with a 14-0 record . Rector was second in the conference at 15-6 and 10-4.
For BIC Nan Lee Bridges scored 20 points, hgJessica Shepard had 9 points and Kasey Garrett scored 2 points. Lauren Faulkner had 14 points and 11 rebounds for Rector, Abbe McCarroll made 6 points, Tara Shepard had 4 points and Haley Harmon scored 2 points.
