Bay wins over Riverside

Thursday, January 16, 2003

BAY Jessica Moreno recorded a triple double and Bay broke away from a 14-14 first quarter tie on their way to a 70-41 rout of the Riverside Lady Rebels in 3AA North Conference action Thursday night at Bay.

The rebels stayed close through the first period behind Keryn Douglas who led Riverside with 20 points, including six three-pointers.

Bay began to take control in the second quarter outscoring the Lady Rebels 23-9 enroute to building a 14 point lead heading into the dressing room 37-23.

Bay continued to build on its lead stretching the margin to 48-29 by the end of the third quarter.

Moreno led the Lady Jacket assault with 16 points 12 rebounds and 10 steals. Three other Bay players hit the double figure mark as Lee Davis scored 12, and Lindsey Stewart and Jessica McMasters had 10 each.

Bay, 16-3 overall and 9-1 in league play, pout constant pressure on the Lady Rebels causing numerous turnovers which spelled doom for Riverside, which was playing without two key players because of injury and sickness, battled valiantly but just didn't have enough depth to stay with Bay.

Riverside Coach Nancy Ritter was pleased with her teams' first quarter play, but said her team got their heads down in the second half and couldn't recover.

"We had way too many turnovers," Ritter said, who added, "We knew Bay could shoot lights out and they did. I was pleased with the way Keryn Douglas played as well as Amanda Dunigan.

"We desperately need to get Chelsea Couch and Amanda Milligan back. We are lacking in our bench depth right now and that hurts us," Ritter said.

Dunigan joined Douglas as the only other Rebel in double figures with 10. Amanda Jo Churchill scored 6, Hailey Faulkner had 4 and Miranda Boyd chipped in 1.

Junior High

In Junior High action, Bay claimed a 46-30 win behind Chelsea Wileman's 14 points and Jerra Ferguson's 13.

Riverside was led by Samantha Dunigan with 17 while Marissa Johnson scored 7. Jonna Dixon had 4 and Amber Nelson chipped in 2.
