Cotton Belles EHC collecting pull tabs to aid cancer patient

Members of the Cotton Belles Extension Homemakers Club are collecting pull tabs from soft drink cans to assist an Armorel School student obtain treatments at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.

Holly Haynes, 12, was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma some months ago and is receiving treatment at St. Jude, with treatments to continue through the spring of 2003. Della Deen, a member of the Cotton Belle s Extension Homemakers Club said Ewing's Sarcoma is a form of cancer which develops on or around bones, usually in the hip, thigh or shoulder area.

Deen said for every gallon of pull tabs collected, Haynes will receive a free treatment.

Collection cans have been placed in various locations around town the Westminster Village and Blytheville Courier News offices.

According to Deen, two gallons of the tabs have already been turned in, and members of the Extension Club are asking for the help of the community in pursuing this mission to assist a local child.
