Reception planned for Eileen O'Neal

A drop-in reception in honor of Eileen O'Neal's 52 years of service to Mississippi County will be held from 2-4 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 19, at the main lobby of the Mississippi County Courthouse, 200 West Walnut Street, Blytheville. Everyone is invited to attend.

O'Neal started her employed on Oct. 1, 1951. She has worked for Sheriff Berryman and Sheriff Ford as Deputy Sheriff collecting taxes. She was elected as the first Collector on Nov. 2, 1976 and took office on Jan. 1, 1977. O'Neal has been the only elected tax collector for Mississippi County.

O'Neal received the "Woman of the Year" award by the Blytheville Business and Professional Women's Club in 1979. She also received the "Presidential Award" by the Arkansas Collector Association and is a member of the Association of Arkansas Counties.

O'Neal will be retiring Dec. 31, 2002, after 52 years of dedicated service to Mississippi County.
