James Lonnie "J.L." Barnes - Leachville

James Lonnie "J.L." Barnes, 80, of Leachville died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at his home. Born at Izard County, he was the son of the late Willie and Dillie Barnes and was a longtime Leachville resident. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and was retired from the City of Leachville Street Department. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church.

He is survived by his wife, Lizzie King Barnes, of the home; two sons, Billie Brasfield of Leachville and James Brasfield of Senath, Mo.; five daughters, Bertha Ray of Monette, Mary Goad of Bradford, Glenda Mahan, Shirley Ann and Donna Gibbs, all of Jonesboro; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Leon Barnes and a daughter, Linda Barnes.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Howard Funeral Chapel in Leachville with Rev. Calvin Stanley officiating. Burial was in the Leachville Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Eric Ray, Cameron Smith, Randall Kalley, Bruce Duncan, Jack Meurer, and Sonny Ladd.

Honorary pallbearers were Tony Ray, Tommy Ray, William Goad, James and J.J. Brasfield, and John Goad.
