Garry Dean Porter, 39, of El Paso, Texas, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at his home. Born at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, he was a former area resident and had lived in El Paso for the past six years. He was a 1983 graduate of Jacksonville High School, and received an associate degree in veterinarian medicine at Central Texas College in El Paso. He served his country for 12 years in the U.S. Army and was a member of Missionary Baptist Church in Hot Springs.
He is survived by a son, Christopher Porter of Wilson; a daughter, Jennifer Porter of Wilson; his parents, Paul and Wanda Vermillion Porter of Wilson; a brother, Cody Porter of Jacksonville.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bill and Maudine Vermillion, and Olen and Hazel Porter, all of Manila.
The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Howard Funeral Chapel in Manila with Rev. Chad Wheeler officiating. Burial was in Manila Cemetery under the direction of Howard Funeral Service.
