Becky Applegate, one of Leachville's newest residents, is enjoying her new hometown and her new position as site director at Leachville Senior Citizen Center.
Applegate and her family moved to Leachville in mid-August when her husband, Doug, accepted the position as pastor of the First Baptist Church.
The family moved to Buffalo Island from Lexington, Miss., and they called moving to Leachville "coming home" to Arkansas.
Rev. Applegate has been in the ministry all of their 17 years of marriage. They have lived in different places in Arkansas, Missouri and Mississippi.
Mrs. Applegate is from Portia and Mr. Applegate's father, Henry, a retired minister, lives in Gosnell, and his brother, David, pastors Keiser First Baptist Church.
The Applegates have three children, Chris, 15, Chase, 12, and daughter, Chloe, 15 months old. The boys are enjoying school and church activities.
This is Mrs. Applegate's first job at a senior center. She formerly worked as a legal assistant.
"I am looking forward to working with the senior citizens and expecting a lot of good things," Mrs. Applegate said. "We have received a warm reception in Leachville and feel right at home."
The Leachville Center services both Leachville and Manila senior citizens. A van runs daily picking up seniors in both communities. Lunch is also delivered through the Meals on Wheels program from the Leachville site.
