Manila Airshow set for Aug. 31

The sixth annual Manila Air Show will be held beginning with rides at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31. The event is hosted by the Manila Pilots Association. Performances will be held at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Performances scheduled include Skip Stewart flying a Pitts Special aerobic plane; The Swift Magic Team doing formation aerobics; Johnny Smith flying his High G. ultra light aerobatic plane; Greg Byrd flying a German built Extra 300; the Arkansas Central Parachute Team; Butler Smith with his Show Cat; Todd Green doing his wing walk routine; Clint Allen in his Citabria and Jimmy Franklin and his Jet Waco.

There will be kiddy rides including barrel train rides, horse rides and more. Local pilots will offer airplane rides to guests of all ages in between performances.

There will be concessions, booths, displays and activities throughout the day.

"The air show is a great opportunity to let people visit the airport. We want to provide an affordable outing for the entire family to enjoy," Nelson Benson, MPA president, said. "There is no charge for the show and no charge for parking."

The annual event is made possible through the joint efforts of the MPA, city, and sponsors.
