Benefit softball tourney slated for Buffalo Island

Buffalo Island Relay for Life will "rock and roll" with softball playing men and women leading the charge on the ball diamonds at Manila's City Park on Aug. 16 and 17. Darrell Birmingham has coordinated the softball tournament. Game times for the ladies' tournament and the men's tournament will be announced later.

There are several goals of the games, according to tournament planners. Players will become a little more fit. Everyone will have a lot of fun. Most importantly, proceeds from the softball games will be applied to "Rockin' & Rollin' for a Cure," which is the theme name adopted by the Buffalo Island Relay for Life cancer campaign.

Birmingham is forecasting good weather and an enjoyable time for everyone who participates in these softball events.

Several teams have already registered. Anyone interested in participating as a player on one of the teams or being a rockin' and rollin' spectator may call Birmingham at 561-3015.
