An official ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Tuesday, June 18, by the Monette Beautification Committee and the City of Monette to welcome CenturyTel's district telephone office to the Monette business community.
On hand for the official ribbon cutting ceremony were Beautification members Margarete Reed, Ernestine Harrell and Barbara Suber, CenturyTel Specialist Marsha Chambers, Monette Mayor David Fletcher, Area Operation Manager for CenturyTel Skip Layne, Area Plant Manager Billy Watson, and Jerry Reed, committee member.
Mayor Fletcher presented Layne with a framed yellow and black certificate which read "A special ribbon cutting ceremony was held June 18 to honor the Mountain Home District office for CenturyTel, for making an investment in the future of the City of Monette by becoming a business partner in progress."
The district office is located at 113 Flagger Street and the plant is at 121 N. Caruthers.
The Mountain Home district serves 13 counties in Northeast Arkansas. There are four CenturyTel districts in the state. The Monette CenturyTel site is the host office for Buffalo Island, serving 5,000 customers locally and is the rural telecommunication area to the area. The company provides CenturyTel highspeed DSL service for Internet users.
Layne, Watson and Chambers are no newcomers to Buffalo Island, but have chosen to make it their home. Layne will have 30 years experience with the telephone company in November of 2002. Chambers worked for the telephone company for 14 years, leaving to work for Mid South Bank, and returning in February of this year. Watson has worked for the company for eight years.
The Monette building once served as the local business office, and it has been completely renovated to accommodate the spacious offices of Layne and Chambers. A new board room is under construction by Kenny Swetnam, and the work is due to be completed soon.
Mayor Fletcher and the Beautification Committee complimented Layne on the work done to update the CenturyTel office, and expressed their appreciation for choosing Monette for their district office site.
