Manila School Board fills positions

Several non-certified positions were filled at the June 10 Manila School Board meeting. Based on Superintendent Charolette Wagner's recommendation, Board members voted unanimoulsy to hire Penny Matthews as part-time food service employee and Lisa Benham for a Custodian I position. Benham will begin work July 1.

The board also voted unanimously to change Billy Miles' position to Custodian II with a $1 an hour pay increase.

All board members, Jimmy Davis, president, Robert Veach, secretary, Allen Donner, Steve Metheny, Jackie Hill, William Davis and George Flagg were present.

Based on Superintendent's recommendation Board member Hill made a motion, seconded by Donner, that High School Principal Happy Grayson serve as head baseball coach at no extra pay and Kim Anderson serve as interim head junior high girls' basketball coach with a stipend of $3,000 and also serve as interim head softball coach. The motion passed 4-3.

The board unanimously voted to elect Superintendent Wagner as Ex-officio Financial Secretary for 2002-2003.

The board voted 6-0 to approve Act 1599 Resolution to hire Debbie Donner for elementary teacher. Board member Donner excused himself during the vote.

Superintendent Wagner recommended Kesha Wager be hired as central office secretary/bookkeeper beginning July 1, contingent upon the approval of the Director of the Department of Education as required by Act 1599. A motion was made by Jackie Hill and died for lack of a second.

Following an executive session the board voted 7-0 on Superintendent Wagner's recommendation to hire Deborah Cherry as central office secretary/bookkeeper beginning July 1.
