Manila athletes to compete in All-Star hoops game

Basketball is not over for several area seniors in Mississippi County that make up the North-South All-Star teams gearing up for one more game on Saturday.

The girls game will begin at 5 p.m. followed by the boys contest at Blytheville High School.

Members of the four teams will also compete in a three-point contest. The boys participants will participate in a slam dunk contest as well.

Ken Daniel of the Sports Promotion Group, organizers of the event, said Mississippi county has a lot of athletic and diverse talent.

The North teams are made up of players form Gosnell, Armorel and Blytheville. The South squads include seniors from Osceola, Rivercrest and Manila.

The games that will be played at Blytheville High School this year, will alternate each year.

The North boys are coached by Len Whitehead of Gosnell. Frankie Gathen of Osceola heads the South boys side. Joey Carr of Armorel is the north girls coach and Sharon Turney of East Poinsett County will lead the South girls.

Participants in the South boys' team include Manila's Adam Donner, Joshua McCollough and Jacob Walker. Other members of the team are Dan Newsom, Antonio Whitmore, Chris Baker, Taurus Byrd, Octavious Bailey, David Hughes, Chris Bailey, Quincy Williams, Brandon Love and Cornelieus Manning.
