Everett Vernon Hillhouse, 80, of Caraway died Friday, May 17, 2002, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born at Caraway, he was the son of the late Richard "Dick" and Ida Crews Hillhouse. He was a lifelong resident of the Buffalo Island area and a member of Rowes Chapel Baptist Church in Caraway.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Fletcher Hillhouse, of the home; six sons, Vernon Hillhouse, Freddie Hillhouse, Russell Hillhouse, all of Manila, David Hillhouse and Steve Hillhouse, both of Benton Harbor, Mich., and Phillip Hillhouse of Lawton, Mich.; three daughters, Linda Jackson of Hayford, Calif., Melanie Hughes and Karla Minton, both of Manila; two step-daughters, Brenda Carter of Benton, Miss., and Sandra Gurley of Marion; a brother, R. G. Hillhouse of Manila; four sisters, Katheryn Phillips, Velma Wilson, Jean Edwards, all of Manila, Bert McElrath of Newport; 29 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Hillhouse and his step-son, Steve Newsom.
The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Howard Funeral chapel in Manila with Rev. Mike Taber and Rev. William Piercy officiating. Burial was in the Caraway Cemetery.
