Manila's Matt Noble pitched a complete game striking out nine and allowing only two hits in the Lions' 2-1 win over EPC on Saturday. The win advances Manila to the second round of the 3AAA South District Tournament held at Gosnell.
EPC's Wayne Lewis reached first base on the only walk Noble allowed in the game. Lewis advanced on Billy McDaniel's single and scored on a close play at the plate after McDaniel was picked off stealing second.
Both teams couldn't get an advantage as EPC led 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh.
Manila's Josh McDaniel led off with a single followed by a single by Josh Morris that put runners at first and third. Senior Noah Shelton's double easily scored McDaniel to tie and Morris slid under the tag at home to give Manila the win.
Along with Shelton's double and Morris' single, Juan Moyeda went 2-for-2 at the plate. John Hicks and Josh McDaniel went 2-for-3 each.
EPC's pitcher Bobo Fortenberry took the loss striking out three and allowing eight hits.
It took two and a half innings for Manila to defeat Turrell 16-0 on Friday.
Justin Hill got the win on the mound striking out eight.
