Manila Elementary will receive approximately $4,600 from the Arkansas Department of Education as a monetary award for outstanding performance. The state uses a formula that rates schools on a points scale. Points are awarded for factors which include student scores on the state fourth grade benchmark exam.
On hundred and thirty nine schools out of 527 elementary schools in the state qualified for the funds. Manila Elementary was one of only two elementary schools in the county to receive a cash award.
"This award is the result of the hard work of the students and teachers of manila Elementary. I am very proud of their efforts to make this elementary school one of the best in the state of Arkansas," Pam Castor, principal of Manila Elementary, said.
