Lions win three, drop two

The weather was a little chilly but a lot drier this week allowing baseball action to get a full week of play. Manila went 3-2 on the week to bring their record to 5-7.

The Lions traveled to Rivercrest on Monday. Manila suffered a 13-0 loss while playing on a rain soaked field. Josh Morris led Manila with two base hits followed by Adam Donner and Scott Townsend with a base hit each.

Freshman pitcher Matt Noble picked up the loss striking out six.

Junior John Hicks picked up his first career pitching win as the Lions rallied late in the fifth to defeat Cross County 8-6. The Lions trailed 2-1 in the second before a double by James King scored Morris.

Cross County picked up five runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 6-2 lead.

Juan Moyeda scored two RBI's on an error in judgment by Cross County's second baseman. A two run homer by Scott Townsend gave the Lions the lead and the win.

Hicks struck out six in the win. Derek Suiter had two doubles along with base hits by Noah Shelton and Adam Donner.

Freshman Matt Noble picked up an RBI on a sacrifice.

Manila shut out Corning, 10-0 on Wednesday giving James King a win.

The Lions went on a slugfest picking up 11 hits.

"We re hitting the ball much better," Coach Ronnie Stratmoen said.

Matt Noble - two singles, 2 RBI's.

James King - two singles, 2 RBI's.

Juan Moyeda - two singles, 1 RBI.

Scott Townsend - double, RBI.

Noah Shelton - single, RBI.

Adam Donner - single.

Manila/Bay

The Lions came alive in the fifth again to defeat the Yellowjackets 14-7.

Manila jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first before Bay took it in the second 5-3.

Both teams picked up two runs in the fourth with Bay still leading 7-5.

Noah Shelton's double in the fifth gave Manila the lead followed by Matt Noble's three run homer.

Shelton also had a single with an RBI in the win.

Pitching victory went to freshman Josh McDaniel.

The Lions had 16 hits coming from:

Matt Noble - home run, 3 RBI's.

Adam Donner - two doubles, single, 3 RBI's.

Juan Moyeda - two doubles, single, 3 RBI's.
