Marcus Washington Cole - Leachville

Marcus Washington Cole, 79, retired Air Force Sergeant of Leachville, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born at Monette, he was the son of the late John V. and Sallie Davidson Cole and had been a Leachville resident since 1990. During his military career, he served his country in World War II, Korea and the Vietnam wars. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Leachville First Baptist Church and was a Mason. Following his military retirement, he lived several years in the Memphis area where he worked at the Defense Depot.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Selby Cole of the home; a daughter, Sarah Hawk of Miami, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. V.C. Yates of Monette.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, David and Gregory.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Friday at Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville with Rev. Jimmy Anderson officiating. Burial was in the Leachville Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Terry Selby, Russell Stricklin, Bob Looney, Wilburn Lovelady, R.D. Jackson and Pete Dortch.
