Rebels improve to 6-3

The Riverside Rebels improved to 6-3 on the year by winning three games in a row during the week. After a 5-4 loss to Buffalo Island Central on Monday, the Rebels prevailed over Marked Tree in a classic on Wednesday 11-1. On Thursday, the Rebels defeated Walnut Ridge 14-3, and on Friday, the Rebels defeated Marked Tree 6-3 .

Against BIC, Daniel Eakins suffered the loss for Riverside in relief as Justin Hawkins led the Mustangs with three RBI's, including a third inning homerun. Brett Sexton went 2-for-4 with two runs scored as well for the Mustangs. Michael Dewitt led the Rebels with two runs scored, including a fifth inning triple.

At Caraway on Wednesday, the Rebels had to use eight innings to defeat Marked Tree 11-10. Senior Tim Austin picked up the victory for the Rebels in relief of Matt Snyder. Austin got the game winning RBI on a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the eighth. The Rebels were one out away from the victory in the seventh inning, but a Tommy Concannon grand-slam homerun, off of Austin, tied the game.

Matt Owens (1-0) got the victory over Walnut Ridge on Thursday in the 14-3 victory over the Bobcats. Owens went five innings, giving up two earned runs. Austin scored four runs to assist the Rebels. Josh Sneed went 2-for-3 with three RBI"s to lead the Rebels' bats.

On Friday, the Rebels held off a late rally by the Indians to hang on for a 6-3 victory just before a major rainstorm in Marked Tree. Michael Dewitt went 3-for-3 with two stolen bases to lead the Rebels. Eakins picked up his first victory of the season with a complete game, seven hitter.

"It was a solid week for our program," said Riverside Coach Kevin Hall. "It gave us great momentum with the two conference victories over Marked Tree. We really played well at their place after playing three games in four days going into the contest."
