Jr. Lions finish top-notch season
The Junior Boys from Manila had quite a season. They went 12-0 in conference play, they won the Marmaduke Invitational Tournament, and they were the Runner-up in the Christmas Shoot-Out held in Nettleton. The Junior Lions finished with a 24-6 overall record.
"We expected to be very competitive, but never thought we would be 12-0 with the tough competition in our conference. Our kids are very competitive and just got better as the year progressed. We had some good outside shooting this year, and that opens up a lot more offensive possibilities," said Coach Anthony Brewington.
All of the starters played their own unique and important roles for the Lions. "Anthony Lancaster gave us a lot of good post play and defense. Boo Grayson and Clayton Seyler gave us the role players who do whatever needs to be done. Matt Noble and Jordan Wise did a lot of growing up during the season, and they really carried us on most nights," said Brewington.
"I would tell the kids, ya'll haven't been beaten yet but there is a target on your back. Everybody wants to beat you, and you have to come ready every night."
"Three games that really stand out from the season are the overtime win at Gosnell and the two games against Rivercrest. Those teams are really talented and athletic and our kids had to battle for the win."
