Manila hosts junior girls invitational

The Manila Junior Lady Lions took second place in the Manila Junior Girls Invitational Tournament held over the holidays. Manila fell to Turrell 29-17 in a slow paced game. The Lady Rockets jumped out to a 6-0 first quarter lead after stalling the ball for the first 4:00 minutes of the game. Turrell doubled Manila in the second taking a 12-6 advantage into the locker room at the half. The Lady Lions were unable to overcome the deficit in the third, falling in the fourth.

Amanda Henson led Manila with seven followed by six from Deborah White and two each from KC Chipman and Whitney Shepard.

Manila - Harrisburg

Manila defeated Harrisburg 39-30 in semi-final action. Leading 9-7 after one and 18-12 at the half the Lady Lions pushed their lead to 32-22 in the third before taking the win. KC Chipman led the Lady Lions with 14 points knocking down four treys. Others scoring were Deborah White eight, Holly McGuire eight, Amanda aHenson four, Whitney Shepard three and Rachel Cheadle two.

Manila - BIC

Manila defeated BIC in the second round of the tournament 39-8. KC Chipman and Amanda Henson led MJHS with 10 points each. Annette Hiser and Jennifer Hemphill added four each followed by two from Holly McGuire and Katie Veach. Deborah White rounded out the scoring for Manila with one point.

Scoring for BIC were Tara Roach three, Nan Lee Bridges, two, Katie Olive two, and Stephanie Baldridge one.

BIC - Osceola

Buffalo Island Central defeated Osceola in the first round of the tournament 28-25. Nan Lee Bridges led BIC with 13 points followed by eight from Jamie Lamar. Others scoring in the victory were Ashley Tate five, and Tara Roach two.

BIC - Gosnell

The junior Lady Mustangs fell to Gosnell in the consolation game 45-15. Bridges led BIC with nine followed by five from Ashley Tate. Kelly Wright rounded out scoring with two points.

Riverside - Marmaduke

Riverside's junior Lady Rebels met Marmaduke in the first round of the tournament falling 38-29. Riverside led 11-6 in the first and 18-13 at the half. Marmaduke outscored Riverside 9-3 in the third to take a 22-21 lead. The Lady Greyhounds doubled Riverside in the fourth to take the win.

Amanda Milligan led RJHS with nine points followed by eight from Ashley Foster. Jae Ashabranner scored five, Torie Gray four, Whitney Shasteen two, and Sam Dunigan one to round out the scoring for Riverside.

Riverside - Walnut Ridge

The Lady Rebels took a 47-31 win over Walnut Ridge in the second round. Jae Ashabranner led RJHS with 18 points. Others scoring in the win were Torie Gray eight, Sam Dunigan eight, Ashley Foster five, Amanda Milligan four, Emilee Hook and Megan Adams two each.

Riverside - Rector

Riverside defeated Rector 49-38 in a consolation round. Rector led 15-13 after one but the Lady Rebels fired back for a 26-21 halftime advantage. Riverside maintained their pressure to hold on to a 37-29 third quarter lead before taking the win.

Amanda Milligan and Jae Ashabranner led the Lady Rebels with 13 points each. Ashley Foster scored seven, Torie Gray six, Sam Dunigan six, Whitney Shasteen two, and Emilee Hook two rounding out the scoring for Riverside.
