Lady Rebels suffer loss to Delaplaine in NEA Tournament

Wednesday, January 2, 2002

In the first period, the Lady Rebels had trouble stopping getting good shots against Delaplaine. They also had trouble stopping the Delaplaine fast break.

The Rebels got shots in the paint, but they just wouldn't fall. Keryn Douglas kept the Rebels in the game with good outside shooting.

Delaplaine led for most of the first half, but the Rebels came on late in the second to take a 20-19 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Rebels had the same woes. They couldn't stop Delaplaine from fast breaking, and their interior shots wouldn't fall.

Delaplaine went on a run late in the third and built a five-point lead. The Lady Rebels trailed by six at the end of three, but they weren't ready to be counted out. They raised their intensity on defense and on the boards, and the Rebels battled back to a tied score with 2:30 to go. Delaplaine sank a three-pointer, took a three-point lead, and stalled for the rest of the game.

The Rebels had a few more chances to come back, but it wasn't in the cards. The final score was Delaplaine 52-Riverside 48.

Melody Ward led the Rebels with 11 points. Amanda Dunnigan had 10, and Keryn Douglas had nine.

Ritchey led Delaplaine with 14.
