Manila Girls earn Tri-County Runner-up Title

The Junior Lady Lions fell to Paragould 32-27 to take second place in the Tri County tournament. Manila led 5-4 after the first quarter but trailed 12-11 at the half. The Lady Lions were unable to gain control in the second half trailing 19-15 in the third before losing the game.

Amanda Henson led Manila with eight points. Others scoring were KC Chipman seven; Holly McGuire seven; Deborah White four; and Whitney Shepard one.

Manila Coach Ron Stratmoen said Paragould had a big girl who was very quick.

"I am very proud of my girls. They played very hard," he said.

Manila 43 Marked Tree 13

Manila defeated Marked Tree 43-13 in the first round. The Lady Lions jumped out to a 12-0 first quarter lead and led 24-2 at the half. Manila pushed on to a 39-4 lead in the third and took the game in the fourth.

Holly McGuire led MJHS with 10 points. Others scoring were KC Chipman eight; Deborah White five; Rachel Cheadle five; Whitney Shepard three; and two each from Amanda Henson, Katie Veach, Audrey Booth, Bethany Daley, Annette Hiser, and Julie Dawson.

Manila 39 Riverside 25

Manila avenged two earlier losses to Riverside with a 39-25 win in the second round of the tournament. KC Chipman led all scorers with 16 points. Others scoring were Holly McGuire eight; Whitney Sheperd six; Amanda Henson five and Deborah White four.

Amanda Milligan and Whitney Shastain led Riverside with six points each following by Torie Gray five; Samantha Dunigan three; Ashley Foster two; Jae Ashabranner two and Miranda Boyd one.
