Angel Tree to help area children

Thursday, December 6, 2001

Something special for every child for Christmas 2001 is the goal of the Friends of the Manila Airport Center (MAC). This is the second year for the group to sponsor the Angel Tree. With the help of caring citizens, they plan to give 165 special gifts this children this Christmas.

The Angel Tree is located in the lobby of Manila City Hall. Each angel is marked for a boy or girl and has an age printed on it.

"We are asking people to take an angel and purchase and wrap a $10 gift appropriate for the age. Use the angel as a tag on the outside of the package and return it to city hall by Dec. 19. We have a list of names that correspond with the angel numbers," Marcella Ford, chairman of the project, said.

"Christmas is for the children and this is something we can do as a community help make it a little more special," she said.

Karon Hill, co-sponsor of the project, said last year there were 55 children that received the special gifts.
