Monette Fire Department trains, purchases new equipment (07/16/03)
The Monette Fire Department has used 2002 grant money to outfit firemen, purchase new emergency equipment, complete training and is now looking at completing the construction of a new safe room command center in 2003. The department was awarded a $65,772 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency last year and has used all but $7,500 of the funding to complete their mission. ...
Hornersville woman drowns near Manila (07/16/03)
Rescue workers responded to a possible drowning call Sunday at 3:52 p.m. at the Floodway Diversion that runs along side Mallard Lake near Manila. According to Captain Ed Guthrie of the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department, the Blytheville Rescue Squad, Manila Fire Department, Manila Police Department and Mississippi County Sheriff's Department, and the Arkansas Game and Fish responded to the call. ...
Floy Jones celebrates 100th birthday (07/16/03)
Floy Jones of Lake City celebrated her 100th birthday Saturday, July 12, with a big birthday party given in her honor at the home of her daughter, Dorothy Timms. It was standing room only for the large crowd that gathered to help Mrs. Jones celebrate. The well wishers were children, adults, teenagers, grandchildren of all levels, neighbors, church friends, and friends of friends.
