To live in relationship with God in the way He had planned, Adam and Eve had very specific guidelines. Actually they were very simple, non complex, in Genesis 2:16,17 Adam and Eve were allowed to eat of all the fruit from the trees except one, the tree of knowledge of good and evil. If they did eat of that tree they would die.
All other parts of the Garden were to be enjoyed and utilized for mankind's benefit.
Living within this one constraint allowed Adam and Eve to maintain a vital relationship with their Creator. The simple guideline here is obedience: God commanded.
From the moment God gave the command not to eat of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, Satan saw his opportunity to cause a break in the relationship between God and man.
We find in Genesis 3:1-5 Satan first planted that seed of doubt in Eve's mind that would become so enticing that Adam and Eve would not refuse it. Through the accusations that Satan planted, Adam and Eve chose to go their own way.
Satan seems to always be our accuser. He is kind of like the foot stool in the dark. Has anyone ever gotten up in the middle of the night and walked through the house and before you could get to the light switch in the living room, BAM!!!!!!! A sharp unbearable pain shoots from your big toe because the foot stool mysteriously planted itself in the pathway.
Well that is Satan, it seems he is always getting in the way. Next time we want to look at Satan's role as the accuser.
