Our background passages are found in Genesis chapters one, two and three.
What happened? have we always needed reconciliation? No at one point in time man was in fellowship with God.
We find in Genesis 1:27-31 that God created man in his own image and called them good. They were given several vital responsibilities: to be fruitful and increase in number, to rule over the earth and other creatures; cultivate the land, by growing plants and food.
Created for God's pleasure and to be a delight to God, they lived in full relationship with him. God walked and talked with Adam and Eve when He placed them in the Garden. Isn't it wonderful to know God places his children where he wants them. Genesis 2:8
He walked and spoke with them in the cool of the day Genesis 3:8a. What a beautiful picture to draw upon, knowing they were the first to have that experience of God's undivided attention and full fellowship.
Just as our earthly fathers or mothers, God explained to them how things worked. Remember teaching your children, they might ask “Daddy, Mommy how does this work.” Sometimes parents might stumble for an answer to get us out of a tough spot at the time. (For a long time, as a child it was hard for me to weed around the cabbage with a hoe, afraid I might hurt a baby.)
Not God, he was direct in telling his children, his Creation, how it worked and what he expected of them. And how God gave them the path they were to follow to live successfully in his garden.
