James 1:21 ...and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
22: But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23: For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass.
24: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25: But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
When we choose to receive the Word of God, He shows us His vision of our lives, and we respond by “doing” what we see. Simple, right? Now, notice the warning not to be a hearer only, but a doer.
....to Hear God and not respond to what we hear is bad enough, but to train ourself to hear and not respond, to see and not obey, to practice hearing then forgetting.... it’s “self deception."
Do you wonder why church goers act just like the world? Look no farther than this. Responding to the Word gives the Holy Spirit the opportunity to work in us and through us. Sitting in a church for an hour won’t make us like Jesus, anymore than sitting in the garage will make us an automobile. We have to be “doers” of the Word, and not hearers only, or we just deceive ourselves. Let’s choose to be doers, and receive the blessings of Heaven.
He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
