And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
For the law was given by Moses, [but] grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
Which is come unto you, as [it is] in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as [it doth] also in you, since the day ye heard [of it], and knew the grace of God in truth:
Jesus said in Revelation 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
God is merciful yes! And God is our Father. When we are close to sin, we don't feel His mercy, we feel His conviction, we hear His Words of warning that sin has consequence, and, if we sin anyway, He uses the truth to correct us. He may send someone with a word of correction to get our attention and reveal that we made a wrong turn, in hopes that we will repent and turn back to His ways of righteousness. And if we do, THEN, we feel His mercy....
But mercy before repentance is many times misinterpreted as endorsement of bad behavior .. Listen to the balance...
Jesus was full of Grace and Truth...
Not one without the other and timed perfectly...
I observe the many forms of discipline parents use today, and depending on the child's personality some work effectively for one but not for another. Thus the challenge is, to use the appropriate form of discipline based on that child's specific personality to have the best results. The older they get those same principles apply..."no laptop for a week" works on her, but not for him"..." Can't go hang out with friends for him...works, but not on her"... You get the point.
The Kingdom of God has every personality type, every age bracket, and it's own set of rules.
Spiritual leaders will attempt to carry out some spiritual discipline in the body of Christ and 40 year old spiritual babies start crying when a preacher gets put in time out... Everyone just wants to hear about the Grace of God without having to be accountable to the Truth of God's Word. Many problems in our world today result from a license beyond Grace, without the boundaries set by Truth. If Jesus corrects us, it's because He loves us. Simply repent, turn around and get back on the path of Truth where the Grace is... Don't get upset when correction comes. Submit to the process and be restored.
He that hath ears to hear let him hear.
