“And this is the commandment that we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.” I John 3:23
It is easy to look at someone in church whose salvation you would never question. Perhaps you can also identify someone you believe is struggling in their walk with Jesus.
One of the enemy’s traps is to get us to think we’re better than the next person so we become complacent in our faith. The only true measuring stick resting in a church pew is in the book rack. It is the Bible, the inerrant Word of God.
Listen to what God says about the assurance of salvation: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16. “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.” Acts 16:31
The common thread in these scriptures is that salvation comes only through belief in Jesus Christ as the Son of God. There is no other requirement, no need for comparisons.
“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” I John 5:13
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God, Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood. This is my story; this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long. The words of this song were written by a blind woman named Fanny J. Crosby (1820-1915).
