Feeding Time
Posted Tuesday, February 7, at 9:35 AM
This article is not about the pot-luck dinner down at the local church this Sunday but rather it is about the need that we all have to be spiritually fed. In First Peter chapter 5 and verse 2 the church elders, also called pastors, are given the responsibility to feed the flock of God which is among you...

Calculating Time
Posted Tuesday, January 31, at 10:03 AM

I came across an article this week that I would like to share with you. There is someone, somewhere that calculates statistics to figure out how much time the average American spends doing various things over the course of an average lifetime. For instance, we spend 4.3 years driving a car. In that time we will drive enough miles to travel to the moon and back three times. We will walk about 110,000 miles. That's enough to walk around the world four times...

A New Year
Posted Tuesday, January 10, at 8:42 AM

In I Kings 19:12 the Bible says. "After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper." (NIV). A new year has begun and some of us have already made our new year resolutions and possible have already broke those promises that we have made to ourselves...

The source of our joy
Posted Tuesday, December 6, at 12:55 PM

In I John 1:4 we read, "And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full." Throughout the Bible we are told to rejoice in the Lord. We know that those who know the Lord should be joyful but what exactly is joy? And why should we be filled with joy?...

Holiday blues
Posted Tuesday, November 29, at 10:26 AM

An old Merle Haggard song titled "If We Make It Through December" tells the story of a man laid off from his factory job with no money to buy Christmas gifts for his little girl. The holiday season is supposed to be a happy time of year, but for some it is a time of discouragement and loneliness...

Being thankful
Posted Tuesday, November 22, at 9:01 AM

Jesus Christ said in Matthew 6:25, "Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not your life more than food and the body more than clothing?" If the Savior of all mankind says that, then why are we worried about these things? We have these things in abundance in a world where half the population lacks even the basics to sustain life. ...

Honoring the pastor
Posted Wednesday, October 19, at 3:02 PM

The month of October is Pastor Appreciation Month. There are some very practical ways that church members can express their appreciation to their pastor. Keep in mind that your pastor is the only member of your church that does not have a pastor. The apostle Paul wrote his second letter to the Corinthian church where he states, "Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not." (II Corinthians 4:1.) Pastors are ministers who have a calling to do ministry but they are in need of God's mercy like everyone else.. ...

Declaration of Dependence
Posted Tuesday, October 11, at 8:50 AM

The Bible is a book of promises. Many promises have been fulfilled and those that have not will one day be fulfilled. I turn my attention to one of the Old Testament promises found in Second Chronicles 7:14 which says, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."...

Walking in the light
Posted Tuesday, October 4, at 7:46 AM

"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin." I John 1:7. How far can you walk? One block, two? One mile, ten? We used to be a nation of people who walked, but now are a nation dependent on the automobile. We used to be a church of people who walked with God, but now what are we?...

Failure Is Not Final
Posted Tuesday, September 6, at 9:47 AM

"For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do -- this I keep doing." Romans 8:18-19 (NIV)...

Actions Speak Louder Than Words
Posted Tuesday, August 30, at 9:10 AM

"Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer." Psalm 19:14 As I reflect on this verse today, I wonder if I could not speak a word, what my life would say to others. Would anyone know something different about me? Would they be able to determine that I am a Christian? Too many know how to speak the language but their actions are a direct contradiction to the words spoken...

Hearing and doing
Posted Tuesday, August 23, at 8:48 AM

"But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed." James 1:25. James tells us to be doers and not just hearers of the Word. The only way to be a doer is to be an intense hearer. ...

God's Creation
Posted Tuesday, July 26, at 8:44 AM

Does God exist? How can we know that God exists? According to the rules of logic, we must concede that it is impossible to "prove" the existence or the non-existence of God. The real question is, "Does the evidence around us argue for or against the existence of a divine Creator?"...

Discrimination in the Church
Posted Tuesday, July 19, at 8:44 AM

James wrote to the early Christian church and tells them that they were guilty of "judging a book by its cover". James 2:1 states "My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons." They were guilty of making judgments based on outward appearances and first impressions. Specifically, they were showing preference to the wealthy over the poor...

The Steps of a Good Man
Posted Tuesday, June 14, at 11:20 AM

Psalm 37:23 states "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord; and he delighteth in his way." With Father's Day coming I would like to reflect on what it means to have a good father. My father completed his earthly journey in 1994 at the age of 90 years. ...

Influence of the Church
Posted Tuesday, June 7, at 11:00 AM

As we think about the church in today's world we need to understand the church's beginning. Jesus words in Matthew 16:18 are "And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." Jesus' church is built upon himself not upon Peter or any other man as some interpret this verse. ...

Happiness and Your Heart's Desire
Posted Wednesday, June 1, at 10:10 AM

Today I would like to reflect on the question, what really makes us happy? Many would answer this question with happiness is having what we want. The primary motivation for everything we do is happiness. No one alive is wise enough to know what is best for him or her. ...

Building friendships
Posted Tuesday, April 12, at 9:10 AM

King Solomon, the wise king of Israel, wrote "A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity" (Proverbs 17:17). How many persons can we count as being our true friends in our life? You have heard the saying "To have a friend, you must be one."...

Keeping the Lord's Day
Posted Tuesday, April 5, at 8:46 AM

Church demographers have observed that church attendance in America is on the decline because more and more people are declaring "none" as their religion. Even devout Christians are attending church less frequently. There was a time in America when Sunday was the highlight of everybody's week. ...

Going Back To the Beginning
Posted Tuesday, March 1, at 11:43 AM

"And God said unto Jacob, Arise go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother. (Genesis 35:1) It is significant that God is calling Jacob back to where he first encountered Him. ...
